Emergency management in the Houston region falls under the responsability of Harris County, which runs the Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management  entrusted with emergency management within the County boundaries, and the City of Houston's Office of Emergency Management , which is in charge of coordinating emergencies in the nine counties that make the Greater Houston region.

Both web sites contains plenty of information, including Houston's Emergency Plan and recommendations on how to face hazards due to extreme weather as well as to other factors.

The Office of Emergency Management prepared a Hurricane adn Disaster Preparedness Guide. We further recommend to register to the Alert Houston notification system, the City's e-mail alert system.
