SCIENCE AND RESEARCH MEET IN HOUSTON AT THE EIGHT CONFERENCE OF ITALIAN  RESEARCHERS IN THE WORLD

Houston, nov 20 - (Adnkronos) - The date is set for December the 1st in the great city of Houston, home to important medical, science and technology centers, for the world of research, for Authorities from the State of Texas and for the Ambassador of Italy to the United States, Claudio Bisogniero. The venue is the eighth edition of the Conference of Italian Researchers in the World, an extraordinary opportunity for thousands of Italian researchers in bioscience, medicine, physics, engineering but also in aerospace, geology, energy and human studies. These are researchers of unquestionable fame that, in their respective fields of activity, attained outstanding results in the USA and elsewhere. In Houston they will promote their work, present their latest research projects and foster a network which is more crucial than ever for the recovery of the Sistema Italia.

The Conference, organized by the Committee of Italians Abroad (COMITES) with the cooperation and under the patronage of the Consulate General of Italy in Houston, gained relevance through the years thanks to its capacity to create a direct link between Italian researchers in the United States and in Italy.

"Thanks to the patronage granted by the highest levels of the Italian and Texan governments, this Conference has grown through the years and today is awaited with expectation not only by the Italian researchers who live abroad but also by their Italian counterparts", comments Vincenzo Arcobelli, President of the Houston COMITES. An event which has grown also in the wake of the brain drain, the well known phenomenon that every year brings about 60,000 well educated young Italians under 40 years of age to seek opportunities abroad. Many of them end up in colleges, companies and research centers in Germany, Sweden, France and Britain, or cross the ocean to the United States, which is the fourth destination for our graduates.
"This Conference", adds Fabrizio Nava, the Consul General in Houston, "will present also this year some of the best Italian researchers, with an aim at enhancing job opportunities for research in Italy by stimulating new opportunities for cooperation between Italian and American centers for excellence."

The qualifying theme for the 2012 edition will be that of drawing the curtain on 2013, a year which will be dedicated to Italian Culture in the United States. This initiative will be presented by the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi on December 12 at the National Gallery in Washington.
Given the relevance of research in the world and especially of the outstanding contribution given by Italians scientists, 2013 will provide an opportunity to celebrate the Italian excellence in this field: from the 50 years of cooperation between our country and NASA to the Italian presence in the Chicago Technology Park, to the synergies created in the medical sector between the two shores of the Atlantic, to the celebrations in honor of Renato Dulbecco, the Italian Nobel laureate in Medicine who passed away this year in California.
