The 67th anniversary of the Italian Republic was celebrated for the first time both in Houston and Austin, State Capital of Texas.

The reception in Houston was hosted in the historical seat of the Julia Ideson Library, and was attended by a significant number of Italians and local personalities, among which Lt. Col. Michele Minonne, commander of the Italian Air Force Representative at Sheppard Air Base (TX), with three pilots.
Consul General Nava highlighted Italy's contribution to the growth of Texas with the increase in trade and investments but above all with a highly qualified Italian community that honors both countries. In this respect he mentioned astronaut Luca Parmitano, whose space mission is constantly monitored by Mission Control in Houston, House Resolution 144 of 2011 which establishes June 2 as Italian Heritage Day in the State of Texas, then showcased the Year of Italian Culture in the United States that saw several prominent events in Houston.
Oliver Pennington, City of Houston Council Member representing Mayor Annise Parker, read the proclamation declaring June 3 Year of Italian Culture Day in the City of Houston. Michael Halper, representing Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, read the Certificate of Congressional Recognition of the Year of Italian Culture in the United States.

The reception in Austin, the first ever to be held in the State Capital, was hosted at City Hall. The relevance of the ceremony was marked by the presence of the City of Austin Combined Color Guard, which saluted the flag during the performance of the National Anthems, and especially by the presence of the Hon. Mayor Lee Leffingwell, who read a proclamation declaring June 7 Year of Italian Culture Day in the City of Austin.
The reception was attended by several personalities in the cultural, political and economic community of both Austin and San Antonio as well as by a significant number of fellow Italians, thus contributing in strengthening the cohesion of the Italian community in Southern Texas.
