2013 YEAR OF ITALIAN CULTURE IN THE UNITED STATES: OPERA IN THE HEIGHTS PRESENTS VERDI'S

Opera in the Heights presents Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata, October 4 - 13, at Lambert Hall in the Houston Heights.  Feel the fiery passion and poignant beauty of the music created for this tale of ardent love and heartbreaking sacrifice.

Violetta is a young courtesan living in the Paris of the 1800’s. She is giving a party and there she meets Alfredo who has loved her from afar for some time. He tries to tell her of his feelings, but she laughs at him, explaining that she no longer believes in love. He persists, and the story takes off from there.

This production represents the final opera in a series of three saluting Giuseppe Verdi’s 200th birth anniversary (the other two were last season’s Macbeth and Falstaff). The Maestro was in his prolific prime when he composed his gem. The music is as good as anything he (or anyone else) ever wrote. The emotional impact of this heartrending story, wedded to Verdi’s incomparable score, gives us an unforgettable night at the opera.

Opera in the Heights performs in an intimate theatre that seats only 300 people. Outstanding young singers and a live orchestra bring each opera to life in the intimate Lambert Hall.
