REMARKS BY CONSUL GENERAL FABRIZIO NAVA AT THE HOUSTON CONSULAR BALL

I wish to thank you on behalf of my colleagues not only for tonight's hospitality, but for making us feel welcome every day. We all experienced postings in several countries, but rarely have we been received with so much warmth.

Thank you Mayor Parker for your leadership in making Houston a World City. We are happy and proud to serve in the coolest City in the Country. Thank you to the Houston Office of Protocol and International Affairs and to all the City employees that take care of us and worked so hard to put this event together. Thanks to all the sponsors, without whom all this would not have been possible. And, lastly, thank you to the Jaycees for founding this Ball more than 60 years ago.

This City is the key through which many of us shaped their image of Texas and of the United States. When people ask me what is Houston like, I usually say that Houston is how the future will be if we get it right. There are many factors at play that contribute to this, from sound policies to a rooted sense of community. What I like to underscore is the unique capacity to attract and integrate the world within the Loop of 610, and turn diversity into an element of strength.

Be assured that the Consular Corps of Houston is happy and proud to be a part of this.

(these remarks were given in the capacity of Dean of the Consular Corps of Houston)
