CONSUL GENERAL NAVA VISITS LAREDO

On October 16 and 17 Consul General Nava visited Laredo, where he met with Mayor Raul Salinas and other City officials.

Laredo, which has a population of about 236,000, is located in the Southern part of Texas on the border of the Rio Grande which separates it from Mexico.

The City is the first inland port and the third customs district by import/export volume of the United States thanks to border trade with Mexico, which increased dramatically especially after the entry into force of NAFTA. Every day 17,000 pedestrians, 12,000 commercial vehicles and 17,000 non commercial vehicles cross the border.

Laredo is also next to the oil and gas fields of the Eagle Ford Shale. The development of non conventional resources in the shale formations 10,000 ft below the arid plains between Laredo and San Antonio, which leaped in a mere few years to 600,000 barrels per day, is one of the most visible stories of the new energy revolution that takes place in the USA and especially in Texas.
