AWARDING OF LITERARY CONTEST IN THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE FOR STUDENTS FROM HOUSTON'S HIGH SCHOOLS

The 9th Conference of Italian Researchers in the World on December 14th had a moment of particular relevance in the awarding ceremony of the literary contest for High School students. The contest, sponsored by the Committee of Italians Abroad (Comites) and organized jointly with the Consulate General of Italy, aims at promoting Italian language and culture with students as well as to encourage them to apply for the Advanced Placement Program exam in Italian.

The theme chosen for 2013 was:"Research, Discovery, Innovation: the Italy of Knowledge". The contest was attended by 365 participants - an all time high - from Middle and High Schools in Houston, who presented an original work in their preferred category (poster, short story or essay, poem) selected by a jury composed of representatives from Comites, Consulate General of Italy, Italian Communities Cultural Center, Rice University and University of Houston.

Eight students were awarded the first prize for their work.
Twenty five other worthy students who didn't make it to the top positions received a consolation prize.
