ITALY-UNITED STATES: DANTE'S LANGUAGE GAINS POPULARITY AMONG YOUNGER TEXANS

(AGI) - Houston, Dec. 18 - Younger Texans are passionate about the Italian language, and gave an overwhelming response to the initiatives organized for 2013 Year of Italian Culture in the USA.

"La Piccola Cucina", the brainchild of the Italian Community Cultural Center's Program Director Tiziana Triolo that uses cooking as a tool for teaching Italian, become a real cult phenomenon covered by several TV networks.

An unprecedented amount of students from Houston's Middle and High Schools participated in the literary contest organized by the Committee for Italians Abroad and the Consulate General of Italy for the 13th Week of the Italian Language with the theme "The Italy of Knowledge". The eight young winners of the literary contest were awarded at the 9th Conference of Italian Researchers Abroad in Houston on December 14.

"The Year 2013 saw a relevant number of activities and events that helped to enhance the positive image that Italy enjoys in this part of the United States", said Fabrizio Nava, Italy's Consul General in Houston. "Ita also confirmed the importance of collaboration among the different components that make the 'Italy System' and with the Consulate General, which was the necessary condition to achieve relevant results."
