FLORENCE TO FLORENCE: AN EXHIBITION OF ITALIAN BRONZE MASTERPIECES IN FLORENCE, TEXAS

On Saturday, March 1st, the public is invited to an opening of the exhibition, “Florence to Florence”, a rare collection of 50 Italian Classical, Renaissance and Twentieth Century bronzes on display at The Vineyard at Florence, in Florence, Texas, a Tuscan styled wine estate, just 35 minutes north of Austin.

The creator of these bronzes, Florence's Ferdinando Marinelli Foundry opened its doors for business in 1905, and immediately began to create important and monumental works for the Vatican and Florentine Museums as well as clients all over the world.  While they are best known for their museum quality replicas of classical and renaissance sculptures made directly from the original works, they also work with contemporary artists, whose work will also be on display.  Today, the foundry is managed by third generation, grandson, Ferdinando Marinelli Jr.

During the two month exhibition there will be conferences and meetings held for museum directors and curators, private collectors, architects, interior designers and urban planners and real estate developers interested in Bronze sculpture.  In addition there will also be one, possibly two charity auctions, where interested parties may purchase the art with a percentage of the sale going to their charity of choice.

Visitors familiar with Italy will recognize many of the sculptures on exhibition.  One of the highlights includes a twelve and a half foot bronze of Giambologna’s Neptune, the original of which stands in the center of Piazza Maggiore in Bologna.

The Vineyard at Florence, in addition to producing award-winning wines, offers overnight villas, a café, gallery and wine tasting room.  Located just 35 minutes north of Austin and 20 minutes west of Georgetown.  The exhibition and wine tasting room is open Sunday through Thursday, 11 am to 6 pm, Friday through Saturday 11am to 7pm. Reservations are not required.
