PANORAMA ITALIA AT THE 47TH ANNUAL WORLDFEST HOUSTON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

WorldFest Houston International Film Festival, the first festival in the United States for independent features films which is now in its 47th edition, will showcase on April 4/14 at AMC Dunvale Theatres 51 new films and 115 Award-winning stories from around the globe, representing more than 31 countries. All events are open to the general public.

As a non-profit cultural and educational organization, the WorldFest mission and vision is to recognize and honor outstanding creative excellence in film and video while educating and introducing excellence in cinematic arts for the promotion of cultural tourism in Houston which adds to the rich cultural fabric of this city.

Worldfest is one of the oldest film festivals in the world. It was founded in August 1961 as an International Film Society, evolved into a competitive International Film Festival in 1968, and became the third competitive international film festival in North America, following San Francisco and New York. “Discovering” film greats like Steven Spielberg, Lucas, Lynch, Ridley Scott, Ang Lee and the Cohen Brothers has been a signature theme for this festival. WorldFest continues to present the emerging true independent films.

WorldFest will showcase also this year a special section to present a number of contemporary Italian feature films which are shown for the first time in Houston, a city whose interest in contemporary Italian cinema is well appreciated as seen during the recent screenings of Academiy Award Winner "The Great Beauty" earlier this year.
Panorama Italia, organized with the collaboration of the Italian Culture Institute in Los Angeles and the Consulate General of Italy in Houston, witnessed the awarding by WorldFest of the Avati Brothers in 2010, Paola Randi 2012 and Roan Johnson in 2013.
