THE VENICE BAROQUE ORCHESTRA PERFORMS IN NEW ORLEANS

February 26 - The New Orleans Friends of Music and Tulane University present on February 26 a concert by the Venice Baroque Orchestra, which will perform on original instruments a repertoire by Antonio Vivaldi.

Founded in 1997 by Baroque scholar and harpsichordist Andrea Marcon, the Venice Baroque Orchestra is recognized as one of Europe’s premier ensembles devoted to period instrument performance.

Committed to the rediscovery of 17th- and 18th-century masterpieces, the VBO has given the modern-day premieres of works by such composers as Francesco Cavalli, Antonio Vivaldi, and Benedetto Marcello and has received wide critical acclaim for its concert and opera performances throughout North America, Europe, South America, and Japan.

For its recordings with Sony and Deutsche Grammophone, the orchestra has been honored with the Diaspason d'Or, Choc du Monde de la Musique, Echo Award and the Edison Award.
