TEXAS EU SUMMIT PRESENTS BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES IN EUROPE

Austin, April 24 - The second edition of the Texas-EU Summit, organized by State of Texas, City of Austin, Austin Chamber of Commerce, US Department of Commerce and other local institutions and agencies with the support of the European Union, presented to the Austin business community the opportunities offered by Europe.

The subject of the Summit is especially relevant given the interest raised by the discussions on the project for a Free Trade Agreement between the United States and the European Union, which would see Texas among its first beneficiaries. As of now, the major foreign investors in Texas come from Europe. In 2012 Texas exports to the EU totaled $ 26 billion, with oil and coal products in the first place, whereas imports from the EU were $ 19.9 billion.

The figures of Texas-Italy trade show a slight reduction in 2012 due to the drop in Texas exports towards Italy, and is now at $ 4.39 billion. However, Italian exports continued to grow after the record set in 2011 (+62,2%) reaching at $ 3,36 billion (2,3%) and raising Italy from the 18 to the 17th position in the ranking of Texas suppliers.

Consul General Fabrizio Nava, who presented together with Mrs. Stefania Righi de Righi the opportunities offered by Italy, on the same day gave a second presentation to the University of Texas students on Italy and Europe.
