Here are the schools that will be involved: Barbara Jordan High School, Davis High School, East Early College High School, E.L. Furr High School, Lanier Middle School, McReynolds Middle School, Mickey Leland College Preparatory Academy for Young Men, Waltrip High School, Scarborough High School, Sterling High School, Westbury High School.

Europe Day, held annually on May 9, is a celebration of peace and unity in Europe achieved finally after the World War II. In the
aftermath of this devastating event, there was in fact, a need for a plan to ensure future peace.

On May 9, 1950, then French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman, laid out his plan for the creation of a new form of political cooperation in Europe, to help maintain peaceful relations between European countries. His vision was to create a European institution that would pool and manage coal and steel production which would “make war between Europe’s nations not only unthinkable but materially
impossible”. This proposal, known as the 'Schuman declaration', led to the treaty now considered to be the act that created the European Union. Composed by six original members (France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg) the EU has now grown into 28 member countries.
