{"id":1673,"date":"2023-06-09T11:58:45","date_gmt":"2023-06-09T16:58:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/conshouston.esteri.it\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/visti\/study\/"},"modified":"2026-02-10T13:35:14","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T18:35:14","slug":"study","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/conshouston.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/visti\/study\/","title":{"rendered":"LONG term Study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"604\" data-end=\"724\"><strong>U.S. citizens<\/strong> must book an appointment through the <strong data-start=\"655\" data-end=\"668\">Prenot@mi<\/strong> portal in order to submit their study visa application.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"781\" data-end=\"840\">The Prenot@mi appointment for U.S. citizens:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"841\" data-end=\"1107\">\n<li data-start=\"841\" data-end=\"923\">\n<p data-start=\"843\" data-end=\"923\">does <strong data-start=\"851\" data-end=\"858\">not<\/strong> require appearing in person at the Consulate for an interview;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"924\" data-end=\"1107\">\n<p data-start=\"926\" data-end=\"1107\">it authorizes the submission of the application, either <strong data-start=\"982\" data-end=\"993\">by mail<\/strong> or <strong data-start=\"997\" data-end=\"1013\">via drop-off<\/strong> at the Consulate\u2019s entrance (security desk).<br data-start=\"1058\" data-end=\"1061\" \/>No online interview or video call is involved.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr data-start=\"1109\" data-end=\"1112\" \/>\n<p data-start=\"1135\" data-end=\"1331\">This procedure applies to <strong data-start=\"1161\" data-end=\"1178\">U.S. citizens<\/strong> residing or attending schools within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Italy in Houston and applying for a <strong data-start=\"1297\" data-end=\"1330\">Long-Term National Study Visa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1333\" data-end=\"1472\">Procedures for universities using the <strong data-start=\"1371\" data-end=\"1389\">\u201cbatch\u201d method<\/strong> remain regulated by separate instructions and are <strong data-start=\"1440\" data-end=\"1456\">not affected<\/strong> by this notice.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1474\" data-end=\"1477\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"1479\" data-end=\"1509\">PROCEDURE FOR U.S. CITIZENS<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1511\" data-end=\"1588\"><strong data-start=\"1511\" data-end=\"1539\">1. Register on Prenot@mi<\/strong><br data-start=\"1539\" data-end=\"1542\" \/>Create an account (if not already registered).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1590\" data-end=\"1765\"><strong data-start=\"1590\" data-end=\"1625\">2. Book the virtual appointment<\/strong><br data-start=\"1625\" data-end=\"1628\" \/>Select:<br data-start=\"1635\" data-end=\"1638\" \/>Consulate General of Italy in Houston \u2192<br data-start=\"1677\" data-end=\"1680\" \/>\u201cNational Visas \u2013 Study Visa \/ U.S. CITIZENS ONLY\u201d<br data-start=\"1730\" data-end=\"1733\" \/>Choose the first available slot.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1767\" data-end=\"1946\"><strong data-start=\"1767\" data-end=\"1805\">3. Prepare the application package<\/strong><br data-start=\"1805\" data-end=\"1808\" \/>Follow the official checklist, available below (application form, passport, photos, proof of financial means, acceptance letter, proof of insurance, etc.).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1948\" data-end=\"2080\"><strong data-start=\"1948\" data-end=\"1977\">4. Submit the application<\/strong><br data-start=\"1977\" data-end=\"1980\" \/>Mail or drop off the application <strong data-start=\"2013\" data-end=\"2033\">ONLY ON or AFTER<\/strong> the date of the Prenot@mi virtual appointment.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2082\" data-end=\"2218\">Applications sent <strong data-start=\"2100\" data-end=\"2110\">before<\/strong> the appointment date cannot be accepted.<br data-start=\"2151\" data-end=\"2154\" \/>On or after the appointment date, applications may be submitted:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2219\" data-end=\"2334\">\n<li data-start=\"2219\" data-end=\"2242\">\n<p data-start=\"2221\" data-end=\"2242\">by mail\/courier, or<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2243\" data-end=\"2334\">\n<p data-start=\"2245\" data-end=\"2334\">by drop-off at the Consulate\u2019s entrance (security desk), without access to visa counters.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2336\" data-end=\"2447\">In all cases, a copy of the <strong data-start=\"2364\" data-end=\"2402\">Prenot@mi appointment confirmation<\/strong> must be included in the application package.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2449\" data-end=\"2452\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"2454\" data-end=\"2511\">APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED WITHOUT A PRENOT@MI APPOINTMENT<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2513\" data-end=\"2764\">Any study visa application mailed or delivered without a valid Prenot@mi appointment will <strong data-start=\"2603\" data-end=\"2635\">not be accepted or processed<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"2636\" data-end=\"2639\" \/>The Consulate reserves the right to return non-compliant applications to the sender, without reimbursement of shipping costs.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2766\" data-end=\"2769\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"2771\" data-end=\"2808\">REQUIREMENTS FOR NON\u2013U.S. CITIZENS<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2810\" data-end=\"2914\">British, Japanese, and Canadian nationals may follow the <strong data-start=\"2867\" data-end=\"2913\">same procedure applicable to U.S. citizens<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2916\" data-end=\"3110\">Applicants of <strong data-start=\"2930\" data-end=\"2957\">all other nationalities<\/strong> applying for a <strong data-start=\"2973\" data-end=\"3005\">Long-Term Stay (91\u2013365 days)<\/strong> who reside in or are enrolled in a school within the Consulate\u2019s jurisdiction (TX, LA, AR, OK) <strong data-start=\"3101\" data-end=\"3109\">must<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3111\" data-end=\"3202\">\n<li data-start=\"3111\" data-end=\"3161\">\n<p data-start=\"3113\" data-end=\"3161\">book an appointment through <strong data-start=\"3141\" data-end=\"3154\">Prenot@mi<\/strong>, and<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3162\" data-end=\"3202\">\n<p data-start=\"3164\" data-end=\"3202\"><strong data-start=\"3164\" data-end=\"3184\">appear in person<\/strong> at the Consulate.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3204\" data-end=\"3298\">Please ensure that you select the correct appointment type:<br data-start=\"3263\" data-end=\"3266\" \/><strong data-start=\"3266\" data-end=\"3298\">\u201cStudy \u2013 Non U.S. Citizens.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3300\" data-end=\"3397\">Applications sent by mail or delivered without an in-person appointment will <strong data-start=\"3377\" data-end=\"3396\">not be accepted<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Please see the required documents <strong>checklist<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/conshouston.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/STUDIO-2.pdf\">STUDIO<\/a>. This is a general list of requirements, some STUDY programs may need additional documentation. The office will provide the proper list in cases where your programs warrant a different process. Please do not overlook the requirements and make sure you have each of it prior to applying.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"55\" data-end=\"596\"><strong>Most students enrolled in Bachelor&#8217;s degrees, Master&#8217;s degrees, Specialization Schools, PhD programs, Advanced training courses, University Master&#8217;s programs, and individual university courses are required to register on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universitaly.it\/\">https:\/\/www.universitaly.it\/<\/a><\/strong>. Please confirm this with your university. Students must access the UNIVERSITALY portal and <strong>complete the pre-enrollment application online<\/strong>, following the procedures active on the portal and attaching the documentation required by the university institution. This procedure applies to the majority of academic institutions, with the exception of certain private universities. The deadlines for pre-enrollment procedures for study programs, except for those with limited enrollment, are set by each individual higher education institution and published on their respective websites. <strong data-start=\"732\" data-end=\"1033\">The Italian university to which the student is applying will validate the pre-enrollment application on the UNIVERSITALY portal. It will indicate whether the authenticity of the documents has been verified and for which ones, and whether the student needs a Declaration of Value for their diploma. <\/strong><strong data-start=\"1035\" data-end=\"1103\">Once the pre-enrollment is validated on the UNIVERSITALY portal, the student can apply for the VISA.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The study visa can only be issued for the dates requested by the academic institution. We cannot accommodate requests for more days. Study visas will only be issued for programs with classes of at least twenty hours per week.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Regarding ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSES, the required level of proficiency for application acceptance is B1 (intermediate level). Prior knowledge of the Italian language must be demonstrated by presenting appropriate language certificates.\u00a0 The level of the language course you intend to attend in Italy must be necessarily a higher-level course (minimum: B2 level). The courses attended in Italy must be in line with the education acquired in the country of origin.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Visa Application available here: <a href=\"https:\/\/conshouston.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/NATIONAL-VISA-APPLICATION-FORM-2021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NATIONAL VISA APPLICATION FORM <\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you do not intend to obtain a valid health insurance policy prior to your departure, you must provide an <strong style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/conshouston.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/AFFIDAVIT-FOR-MEDICAL-INSURANCE.pdf\">AFFIDAVIT FOR MEDICAL INSURANCE <\/a><\/strong>stating that you will purchase an Italian insurance policy upon your arrival in Italy, before registering with the local police headquarters (<em>Questura<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Students attending a program in Italy at a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>foreign University<\/strong><\/span> <strong>for less than 150 days<\/strong> are not required to apply for an Italian Residence Permit. In place of it, they will have to present a Declaration of Presence in the country at the closest local police headquarters (<em>Questura<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Processing can take up to <strong>90 days<\/strong>. Before scheduling other trips that may come in conflict with your application, please be aware of the processing time. We urge you not to request expedited processing of your VISA on the basis of other trips.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Visa office handles many thousands of requests each year and we strive to process every application in time for the departure date, which means that applicants might receive their passports just few days before their departure. Please do not ask for updates about your visa status and do not inquire about the delivery of the envelope. This sort of inquiries will be disregarded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The LONG TERM STUDY VISA fee is $ 58.10 <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/conshouston.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/altri-servizi\/albo-consolare\/estratto-tabella-diritti-consolari\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Visa Fee (esteri.it)<\/strong><\/a><strong>. The Office accepts only <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">USPS Money Order payable to the Consulate General of Italy<\/span>. Other forms of payment will be rejected.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Affidavit of support available here: <a href=\"https:\/\/conshouston.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/AFFIDAVIT-OF-FINANCIAL-SUPPORT.pdf\">AFFIDAVIT OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you would like the passport\/visa returned by mail you will need to provide<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> a UPS or USPS EXPRESS PRIORITY prepaid mail envelope with tracking<\/span> along with the application. If using <strong>FedEx<\/strong>, please ensure that the <strong>Consulate is not listed as the sender<\/strong> of the shipment. Other form of mailing will be rejected. Please take note of the tracking number before shipping it.\u00a0 If the application is missing the return envelope, the passport will not be shipped back but it will be picked up in person. Please provide the declaration for mailing your passport: <a href=\"https:\/\/conshouston.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/consenso-spedizione.pdf\">Declaration for mailing.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There have been several issues with the mail service in the past, thus it is strongly recommended to pick up your passport in person when it is ready. In case of impossibility, please provide <strong>not less than a priority EXPRESS prepaid mail label<\/strong>, which is more trustworthy.\u00a0If the passport gets lost in the mail, please do not inquire about it with the visa office but rely on the mail service that you used.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It has frequently occurred that, due to a delay in the delivery of the package, students \u2014 acting out of concern\u2014 have reported their passport as lost and requested a replacement. <strong>This is a practice we strongly discourage<\/strong>, as statistics show that the passport is eventually delivered, with the visa enclosed. Therefore, should you find yourselves in a similar situation, <strong>we strongly advise against taking such action and recommend that you patiently await the regular delivery of your passport.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Please address any question regarding the Declaration of Value to <strong>houston.education@esteri.it<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Students who need a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Tax Code<\/span> for university pre-registration can obtain it automatically through the UNIVERSITALY portal during the pre-registration application. The Tax Code assignment can be completed at the Single Immigration Office or the Police Headquarters when applying for a residence permit by non-EU students; at the Agenzia delle Entrate by submitting the AA4\/8 form for EU students.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Please check the <strong>General information page<\/strong> for other useful information.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"U.S. citizens must book an appointment through the Prenot@mi portal in order to submit their study visa application.
