{"id":243,"date":"2023-04-03T19:27:59","date_gmt":"2023-04-04T00:27:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/conshouston.esteri.it\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/passaporti-e-carte-didentita\/"},"modified":"2024-07-22T18:29:48","modified_gmt":"2024-07-22T23:29:48","slug":"passaporti-e-carte-didentita","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/conshouston.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/passaporti-e-carte-didentita\/","title":{"rendered":"Passports and Identity Documents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Italian passport is an identity document that allows you to travel to all countries recognized by the Italian government.<br \/>\nPassports cannot be renewed: on the expiry date, a new passport must be requested.<br \/>\nThe booklet currently in force is the <strong>electronic passport<\/strong> and is issued:<br \/>\n\u2022 valid for 10 years for people over 18;<br \/>\n\u2022 valid for 5 years for minors between the ages of 3 and 18;<br \/>\n\u2022 with a validity of 3 years for minors from 0 up to 3 years.<\/p>\n<p>Passports are issued:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>for Italian citizens residents<\/strong> in the states under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Houston (Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas);<\/li>\n<li><strong>who are <\/strong><strong>enrolled<\/strong><strong> in the AIRE<\/strong> of the Consulate General of Houston;<\/li>\n<li><strong>who<\/strong> <strong>have regularized the transcripts of civil status<\/strong> (marriages\/civil unions, births\/adoption of children, divorces, deaths of family members). Italian citizens are in fact required to declare to the competent consular office all changes in civil status \u2013 producing the relative deeds or other documentation \u2013 which occur during their stay abroad. The law 1185\/1967 \u201cRegulations on passports\u201d provides, among other things, that when submitting the application, the interested party must prove his identity, possession of Italian citizenship and family status in the manner prescribed by law;<\/li>\n<li>we renew <strong>expired passports or passports expiring within 6 months\u00a0<\/strong>on the date of the appointment;<\/li>\n<li>for first passports<strong>, only after the Comune has registered the AIRE<\/strong> (and the name appears in the AIRE database).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><u>Italian citizens resident in Italy or registered in AIRE with other Consulates<\/u>\u00a0must contact the relevant\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.passaportonline.poliziadistato.it\/\">Police Headquarters<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/conshouston.esteri.it\/it\/chi-siamo\/la-rete-consolare\/\">Consulate<\/a>\u00a0for the issue of an expiring passport.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In case of theft, loss, deterioration read here.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We invite you to submit the application for the issue of the new passport before the expiry date and not to purchase travel documents without first having obtained the issue of the same.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Possession of a travel ticket will not be considered as an urgent reason for the issuance of a passport.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Italian passport is an identity document that allows you to travel to all countries recognized by the Italian government.
