The Consulate of Italy in Houston is pleased to support the University of St. Thomas in commemorating the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi.
Throughout Fall 2026, the University will mark this significant anniversary with a series of lectures, exhibitions, liturgies, artistic programs, and academic events exploring the enduring legacy of St. Francis from historical, theological, scientific, artistic, philosophical, and cultural perspectives.
The initiative, “St. Francis of Assisi — 800 Years of Adventure,” provides an opportunity to reflect on the life and legacy of one of Italy’s most influential religious and cultural figures and on the continued relevance of his message across communities and generations.
As part of the commemoration, the University will present a month-long program of events open to the university community and the public.
