Italian National Space Day

December 16 is National Space Day.

The Day, established in 2021, celebrates the launch of the first Italian satellite, San Marco 1, which took place on 15 December 1964, thanks to which Italy was the third country in the world to exceed the Earth’s atmosphere. Since then, Italy boasts numerous firsts in space and has become one of the main players on the international scene.

To make known to the international public the contributions that Italian science and technology applied to space have brought to the progress of humanity, to knowledge of the Universe and to space flight techniques, the Farnesina and its foreign network organize every year on the occasion of the National Space Day a series of events and an information campaign in collaboration with the world of research and Italian industry active in the sector. There are also numerous events abroad organized by the offices of the diplomatic network, by the scientific attachés at our Embassies and Consulates, by the associations of Italian researchers and professionals in the world. Participate!

Happy National Space Day to all of you around the world!
