The Consul General

Mauro LORENZINI is an Italian diplomat with 25 years of experience in various sectors of international relations.

Born in Livorno in 1967. Graduated in Political Sciences at the “Cesare Alfieri” University of Florence in 1993, he entered a diplomatic career following a competition in December 1998. Between 1998 and 2000 he worked at the General Directorate for Multilateral Political Affairs and Human Rights at the OSCE Office (Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe).

Between 2000 and 2004 he served as Vice Consul of Italy in Newark (United States). In 2003 he provided auxiliary service at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the United Nations in New York. Subsequently, from 2004 to 2008 he served at the Italian Embassy in Pretoria (South Africa), as first secretary and head of the commercial office.

Since July 2008 he has been in service at the Diplomatic Institute of the General Directorate for Human Resources and Organization (MAECI Rome) as deputy director of the Director. From 2011 to 2015 he served at the Permanent Representation of Italy to International Organizations in Geneva (Switzerland) as Counselor in charge of humanitarian affairs and relations with the international Red Cross.

From 2015 to 2017 he served as Consul General of Italy in Caracas, Venezuela.

Following his return to the Farnesina, at the Directorate General for Globalization and Global Issues, he served as Special Envoy for Chad in 2017, and as Head of the Unit for West Africa and Central Africa, from 2018 to October 2022.
From 5 October 2022 he assumed the functions of Consul General of Italy in Houston (United States).
