Birth documentation

Please be aware that:

  • The documentation presented to this Consulate will NOT be returned
  • This Consulate will send to the competent Comune AIRE the documentation: for the Italian citizenship, to register the birth and to register the minor in AIRE
  • The time the Comune take to finish the procedure varies (big municipality such as Roma or Milano will take longer)
  • The confirmation of the registration must always be requested to the Comune and NOT to the Consulate. We suggest emailing the Ufficio Anagrafe/Stato Civile of your Comune (write in Italian)
  • With the local authorities at the time of the birth registration, make sure the names, DOB, POB of the parents are correct and exactly match the Italian documents. In case of discrepancy, make sure the final document is correct
  • The Surrogate motherhood is a crime [Birth derived from “surrogate motherhood” – Consolato Generale d’Italia Houston]
