Reacquisition of Italian Citizenship

Pursuant to Law no. 91/1992, which came into effect on August 16^th 1992, choosing to become a citizen of another Country no longer results in the automatic loss of Italian citizenship, unless Italian citizenship is formally renounced (art. 11 Law n. 91/92).

Italian citizens who lost their Italian citizenship, are able to reacquire it, in one of the following ways:

• By statement of intent, pursuant to Law 91/1992, ex art. 17 par. 1;
• By establishing residency in Italy, pursuant to Law 91/1992, art. 13.
