In order to be valid in Italy, deeds and documents issued by foreign authorities must be legalized by the Italian diplomatic-consular representations abroad, translated in Italian and the translation must be legalized.
Legalization/Apostille of documents
Legalization is a procedure through which the legal qualification of the public official who has signed an act and the authenticity of his signature are officially certified.
Documents issued in the USA are legalized with the Apostille. The Apostille is a certification that will be attached to the document issued by foreign authorities. In USA the Apostille is issued by the Secretary of State where the document has been issued.
Legalization of the translation
To request the legalization of the translation it’s necessary to book an appointment on prenot@ami for service “Legalization”.
At the appointment is necessary to come in person and to present:
- Formulario filled out (https://conshouston.esteri.it/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Form-Legalizzazione.pdf)
- Document with the translation in Italian
- Payment with USPS money order for the fee shown on Tariffa consolareraw “In Italiano (per foglio) art 72A”, column “USD arrot.” for each page of the translation (be aware that fees change on January 1, April 1, July 1, October 1).
Be aware that is not possible to send the documentation by postal mail. It is recommended to book an appointment through Prenot@ami to ensure efficient and timely management of the requests.
