Responsibility for emergency management in the Houston region rests with Harris County, which has established a Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management and the City’s Emergency Management Office. ‘ of Houston (Office of Emergency Management), in charge of coordinating emergency situations in the eight counties that make up the Greater Houston urban region.
Both offices’ websites contain a wealth of information, including the City of Houston’s emergency plan and recommendations on how to respond to risks posed by extreme weather and other factors.
The Office of Emergency Management has also produced a preparedness guide for hurricanes and other disasters: www.houstonoem.org/preparedness-are-you-ready
It is also recommended that you subscribe to the real-time alert notification system on your Alert Houston mobile phone, operated by the Office of Emergency Management.
