Emergency Travel Documents (ETD)

The E.T.D. (Emergency Travel Document) is a temporary travel document valid only for re-entry to Italy or the country of A.I.R.E. residence.

The E.T.D. is issued:
• for citizens not residing in the Houston consular district – in the event of theft, loss, or damage to their passport.
• for citizens residing in the Houston consular district – when authorizations for the passport have not been received.

You must present yourself in person at the Consulate General in Houston within 5 days prior to departure with:
1. A copy of the theft or loss report issued by the local police or a reference number.
1. Two 2″ x 2″ color passport-sized photographs, frontal view, light background, and without smiling; the face must not exceed 1.18″ wide and 1.38″ high.
2. Any document or photocopy useful for identification, or alternatively, the presence of an adult witness with an ID who can identify the applicant.
3. Copy of the airline ticket with the date and route.
4. Minors under 18 years of age require the consent of both parents – this can be sent by email to passaporti.houston@esteri.it along with a copy of valid IDs (with photo and signature).
5. $2 in cash.

At the office, you will be asked to complete:
1. Report form.
2. E.T.D. form.
