How do I apply for a passport?

Please check:

  1. to be registered in AIRE with the Consulate General in Houston (through the Fast-It portal it is possible to access the consular files);
    2. that the residential address is updated (through the Fast-It portal);
    3. that the documentation for the civil status transcripts have been received by the Vital Records office (write to statocivile.houston@esteri.it);
    4. that the current passport is expired or it will expire within 6 months;
    5. in case of first passport, verify that the Comune has registered the birth certificate and AIRE, and that the name appears in the AIRE database (write to anagrafe.houston@esteri.it).

For the issuance of the passport it is always necessary to come in person (for the acquisition of the biometric data) in one of these offices:

  • Houston, at the headquarters of the Consulate General in Houston – appointments for Houston can only be booked through the Prenot@mi portal
  • Dallas, at the headquarters of the Honorary Consulate (open to residents in the greatest Dallas area and Oklahoma) – for appointments write to Mr. Richard Gussoni at dallas.onorario@esteri.it
  • New Orleans, at the headquarters of the Honorary Consulate (open to Louisiana and Arkansas residents) – for appointments write to Mr. Franco Valobra at neworleans.onorario@esteri.it
  • Austin, a consular operator will visit Austin in spring – appointments will be available on Prenot@mi
  • only in the case of permanent disability proven by a medical certificate, write to passaporti.houston@esteri.it

Prenot@mi

The Prenot@mi portal allows to book appointments for issuing passports at the Consulate General in Houston.

An appointment must be made for each applicant. Family groups – in order to be received together – can make a multiple booking (max 4 people at a time). Please be careful at the number of appointment booked (the user + 2 persons makes 3 appointments).

Since minors are not authorized to create an account on Prenot@ami, the Italian parent must make an appointment in their own name and in the NOTES enter: “appointment for minor: full name and DOB”

For first passports, in the NOTES enter: “first passport”.

Every day (except Tuesday, Friday and Saturday) after 17:00 the system makes new appointments available. Cancelled reservations will be made available immediately.
In case of unavailability, please try again at a later time.

Due to the high number of requests, if not able to come, please cancel the appointment or promptly inform this office at passaporti.houston@esteri.it.

The unjustified absence will be negatively taken into consideration for a future booking.
